Devlog #5

There is a ton of stuff that has happened in the last two weeks on the development side of things, and I'm sure you will all be thrilled to see all the new things that have been finished.

State of the site, workflow, and programming updates

I would personally estimate that we are 70-80% finished with the game, if not more at this point. We are anticipating a release of the 1.0 version of the game within the month of August if all goes according to plan. As it stands, there are two SCPs, two minor systems, and one core system that still need to be finished. Animations and GUI elements are still needed for some systems, but those are being worked on too.

Recently, we took the time to convert to a new framework, allowing me to program much faster and commit to GitHub easier. You may have noticed a bit of spam in the GitHub channel since this change, so feel free to mute it if it's annoying or stare at it if it's interesting to see the changes come in.

A ton of work has gone into the physical site, including finishing the SD spawn, MTF spawn, starting the TSCA (Test Subject Containment Area), and more.

Programming updates

Over the last couple of weeks, I've been mostly focused on reworking some older systems (gun system rework/scp049 rework) and transferring to the new framework. Within the last few days, though, I took the time to work on a few new systems. The most notable of these is the task system, which can be seen in action here:

This is an early version of the vending machine restocking task where players will be able to pick up boxes and replenish vending machines around the map for XP and cash (values subject to change).

This is another early version of a task, as you may be able to tell from the two blocks that make up the 'incinerator.' This task will have players clearing out trashcans and incinerating the trash for XP and cash (values subject to change).

The UI you see over my head is also subject to change, but will most likely take a similar form at release. The [VI] you see is a part of our 'Division' system, which you will hear more about when it is fully fleshed out.

Another notable system is the main-menu GUI system.

THIS IS NOT THE FINAL GUI, ONLY A MOCK-UP FOR PROGRAMMING PURPOSES

We have actual GUI elements being made that will replace this current bare-bones version. This version was only created so that progress could be made on more important systems. However, you can see more of our 'Division' system in play here on the main screen, which also displays your departments and rank in each of them. There is also a credits button, which will allow you to see all of the people who have contributed to the development of the game. At the moment, though, it's just a giant duck with serious drip and a couple of words.

Q&A

Again, no interesting questions or notable answers this week.

Final Note

The information about the release of the site is an estimate, not a final decision. Many things mentioned in this devlog are subject to change and do not reflect the final product that we are working to achieve. This devlog was released a day early on purpose to account for personal unavailability.
